HootWise is still in development. This page explains how the awareness site and adult interest form should be handled before the app is broadly available.

Adult Interest Form

The form is for adults who want updates, early-test information, or a way to share feedback. It asks for adult contact information only.

Please do not send a child's name, school, diagnosis, reading level, voice recording, or other sensitive information through the form.

App Data

The current HootWise app stores learner profiles, reading preferences, progress, story history, stars, and owl buddies on the device. There is no HootWise account system or cloud sync service for reading practice in the current app.

Deleting the app or clearing website/app data can remove saved practice on that device.

Speech And Microphone

HootWise uses speech features so the app can follow along while a learner reads aloud and so it can read instructions or story text aloud.

On iPhone and iPad, HootWise uses Apple speech recognition through the native app shell. In a browser, speech behavior depends on the browser and platform, and some browser speech features may use services from the browser vendor. Optional model-based speech or voice features may download model files unless they are bundled ahead of time.

Reading Support

HootWise includes reading-comfort controls such as a dyslexia-friendly font, larger spacing, steady highlighting, sentence spotlighting, and hiding speed scores. These controls may help some learners feel more comfortable while practicing.

HootWise is not a diagnostic tool, medical device, special-education evaluation, or guaranteed intervention for dyslexia or any other reading difference.
